| Polyarylate Films for Optical
Applications |

|
| Optical films can be made by
novel polyarylates with improved UV stability, light
transparency and heat-resistance. The present work relates to
novel polyarylates made of bis(hydroxyphenyl)fluorene ortho
disubstituted bisphenols. These materials feature a broad
range of properties useful for optical applications,
particularly for plastic and flexible FPD
substrates. |

New high-temperature
(Tg>300 ºC) optical polymers are under development by
Ferrania S.p.A and Promerus, LLC. Substrates based on
these materials demonstrate excellent chemical resistance, low
O2 permeability and superb physical and optical properties.
These properties offer the potential of meeting the
requirements for roll-to-roll processing of flat panel
displays. |

AppearTM 3000 and AryLiteTM
plastic films satisfy most of the necessary requirements for
use as substrates in flexible flat panel
displays. Preliminary evaluations have shown excellent
physical and optical properties and chemical resistance. We
now present further progress with respect to poly-Si TFT array
fabrication. |
